solidian GRID has received the general building approval (abZ) from the DIBt!

The way is now paved for planning and building with carbon concret

For the first time, solidian GRID have been approved by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) as carbon reinforcement grids in the form of a National technical approval (abZ) and general construction technique permit (aBG). solidian GRID reinforcements can therefore be used as single or multi-layer tensile reinforcement (up to 6 layers) for concrete components on the basis of the abZ/aBG and the newly published DAfStb guideline - “Concrete components with non-metallic reinforcement”.

The approval of solidian GRID applies to carbon concrete components that are manufactured in the precast concrete plant or as in-situ concrete components. The carbon concrete components are produced either by casting or laminating.

The solidian GRID can be used as load-bearing or structural reinforcement for mainly bending components with predominantly static loads, such as

  • Facades and sandwich panels
  • Balconies
  • Bridges (predominantly static loads)
  • Parking garage slabs
  • Garage floor slabs
  • Underground garages
  • General bending components

solidian GRID as load-bearing reinforcement for structural designs
When using solidian GRID as load-bearing reinforcement, the following boundary conditions must be observed (valid for all exposure classes as well as internal and external components):

  • Concrete mix designs according to DIN EN 206-1 and DIN EN 13670 with concrete strength classes from C30/37 to C70/85 with limitation of the maximum grain size to a maximum of 16 mm.
  • Minimum component thickness: 30 mm (central arrangement of the reinforcement).
  • For greater component thicknesses, a concrete cover of at least 14 mm is required.
  • The component temperature must not fall below -20 °C and must not permanently exceed the average annual temperature of 40 °C typical for Europe. Climate-related short-term temperature increases of up to 80 °C are possible.
  • Observe the other boundary conditions in accordance with the DAfStb guideline - “Concrete components with non-metallic reinforcement”.
  • Currently, only components for which a calculated shear force reinforcement is not required may be reinforced.

Further possible applications of solidian GRID
The purely structural use of solidian GRID also allows the combination with steel reinforcements and, in addition to concretes according to DIN EN 206-1, the use of concretes according to the concrete block standard DIN 18500.

The approved solidian GRID can be supplied as a flat, individual reinforcement grid or rolled up in long lengths, which means that joints in the longitudinal direction of the grid can be avoided even in large carbon concrete components. The approval of solidian GRID therefore offers excellent conditions for a wide range of applications in the production of carbon concrete components.

solidian GRID as family approval
solidian has succeeded in obtaining approval of the solidian GRID as a family approval. This means that not only the previously known reinforcement grids (designations according to the directive in brackets)

  • solidian GRID Q95-CCE-38
    [solidian GRID Q95-C-EP-s38-F275]
  • solidian GRID Q85-CCE-21
    [solidian GRID Q85-C-EP-s21-F262]
  • solidian GRID Q71-CCE-51
    [solidian GRID Q71-C-EP-s51-F207]
  • solidian GRID Q47-CCE-38
    [solidian GRID Q47-C-EP-s38-F144]

but also possible other grids with grid widths from 21 mm to 76 mm. The same materials must be used to manufacture the grids and the minimum tensile properties defined in the approval must only be verified as part of the initial sample test.
